State police arrested Charles Ream on Wednesday who has long been suspected of being responsible for the 2007 death of Samantha Lang. Police suspect Lang’s death at her father’s house was caused by Charles Earl Ream, 53, of Derry Township.
According to online court documents, Charles Ream is being jailed without bond on accusations of murder, robbery, burglary, and theft. As he was being escorted from the Greensburg station to a police car, he remained silent to reporters.
Investigators have regularly redoubled public efforts over the past 16 years to determine who killed Lang on March 27, 2007. Last year, they and Lang Polo’s mother, Carol Polo, pleaded for information to pursue justice.
Lang was murdered by her killer at the residence on Route 982 close to Peanut, a community in Derry Township. At about nine o’clock at night, she was discovered in a pool of blood between the living room and kitchen with her neck slit. A criminal complaint against Ream included information from an autopsy report that shows she was beaten and suffered a fractured finger.

The house was looted and strongly smelled of marijuana, according to court documents in which police described it as a hub for narcotics operations. Police said that a rear door appeared to have been forced open and that a metal lock box and a gray metal safe had been left on separate beds and the back porch, respectively.
Lang resided there along with her brother and their father, who at the time were both detained on separate offenses.
Ream, who was using drugs at the time, was questioned by state police in the days that followed, according to the complaint. On the day of her passing, he claimed to have paid $50 for drugs from her.
Shortly after Lang died, state police detained Ream. According to court records, they accused him of possessing drug paraphernalia in June 2007 as a result of a March 30, 2007, incident in Derry Township. He received a year’s probation as his punishment.
Not shortly after Lang passed away, state police arrested Charles Ream. According to court records, they accused him of possessing drug paraphernalia in June 2007 following an incident that occurred on March 30, 2007, in Derry Township. He received a probationary period of one year. Ream admitted to killing Lang, according to two female witnesses who also told police about it a few months ago.
Lang, a Greater Latrobe High School alumna who graduated in 2004, had begun a new job the week before she passed away and was enrolled in paralegal courses.
In Westmoreland County Prison, Ream was detained. According to online court records, he did not have a lawyer. On August 9, there will be a preliminary hearing.
Ream was sentenced to prison in connection with a 2009 criminal trespass and theft case brought by Derry Borough police, according to court documents. In such an instance, he paid the last of the costs and fees in 2019.
A male witness said to investigators on numerous occasions over the years that Ream meant to rob Lang of drugs by breaking her fingers, but she recognized him via a face mask and he had to “take care of her,” according to the affidavit. He was last spoken to by police in March 2022.
