One month after the birth of their second child, Rihanna and A$AP Rocky have finally revealed the name.
According to the obtained birth certificate by The Blast, they named their son Riot Rose Mayers.
The certificate also confirms that the baby was born on August 1, 2023, at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles.
Following a naming tradition, the singer turned beauty mogul, 35, and the rapper, 34, chose names starting with the letter ‘R’ for their children.
The couple’s first son, born in May 2022, was named RZA Athelston Mayers in tribute to Wu-Tang Clan leader RZA.
Speculations suggest that the latest baby’s name could be a reference to A$AP Rocky’s recently released track ‘Riot’, featuring Pharrell Williams.
Rihanna announced her second pregnancy during her 2023 Super Bowl halftime show performance in February. She was seen rubbing her stomach on stage, sparking speculation among viewers. Her representative confirmed the news shortly after the show.
After the birth of their son, sources revealed that the new parents would keep a low profile and not immediately introduce the baby to the public.
Previously, Rihanna addressed her decision to share photos and videos of her eldest son on social media.
In an interview with British Vogue, she explained that she shared pictures of RZA with the gossip blog Hollywood Unlocked and posted a video on TikTok after discovering that paparazzi had taken unauthorized photos of him.
“It’s the thing you never want to happen,” she expressed, adding, “I just went straight into protective mode. Like there wasn’t even time for rage.”
She also shared how motherhood has brought a new perspective to her life. “Having a kid honestly unlocks another side of life where you’re now in the matrix with the people who’ve already had kids,” she said. “You come to have a different respect for moms and dads.”
